that if you eat half a grapefruit in the morning before you eat anything else you'll lose weight? my friends dad tried this and she said it realy worked on him. it burns through the rest of the food - the acid or something, im not sure....! is that pure rubbish?

I have read that drinking grapefruit juice or eating a grapefruit can increase metabolism. I have no idea if this is true. They are so acidic that it actually messes with my tummy. Would love to know whether it does though. Rosie x

This diet has been around for decades. Its thought that there is a magical ingredient - an enzyme - in grapefruit, that when eaten with protein, triggers fat burning and weight loss. So the whole diet is low carb and high protein, not a million miles away from the Atkins diet. No scientific studies back up this power to burn fat. There was one study that found that it worked - and that was funded by the Florida Dept of Citrus. Its a low calorie, low insulin fruit. So it may help you feel full so you dont eat as much after. But I dont think theres any magic in it. You need to eat a wide variety of healthy food and exercise plenty. But you already knew that! Go for grapefruit - they taste great!

I tried that diet 20 years ago! I guess like with all things, it comes round again. It didnt work for me - hence why I came here looking for slimming pills - I just ate the same as I did before with a grapefruit on top! I'm sure if you can stop after the grapefruit, you'd look fabulous!

hey there Im with you whittle - that grapefruit diet has been around for years and years! not sure its effective though! I dont really like the taste of it either, too bitter for me! I reckon if you eat a big breakfast and then a good lunch, a small dinner and a few snakcs, that shoud be good right? and yes, exercise is always the one thing we all need to do more of!! but sometimes its easier said than done right!!
