just wanted to start a bit of a discussion here.

I don't celebrate valentine's day.  I have never enjoyed the forced roses and chocolate 'holiday' I don;t want to sound high and mighty saying that I would prefer to get flowers any other day or whatever because my partner thought of me etc rather than 'oh god, valentine's day is here and i need to sort something out' it's just a bit forced you know...

What do you think? do you men go out of your way on this day? women.. would you be upset if there wasn't a gesture on this day?

just interested...
x

hey rose

my fella hates everything to do with valentines day, to the point that he actually tells me he wont send me a card as he believes its all such a commercial bin!
if Im honest, I think he has a point - I mean why do we need to celebrate the one we love on a particular day? shoudnt we show them everyday how much we love and appreciate them? Although saying that...how often does your fella come home at random with flowers or chocolates!!!

My boyfriend is actually very thoughtful, he may not bring me chocolates often (diet!!!!) but he likes to bring me home interesting little plants that hve funny flowers, or if he is in the city and by borough market, he'll bring home some interesting cheese or something he thinks we will enjoy together. I don't always need things to make me feel like I am loved.  He comes up with interesting and fun things to do.  So i really don't need valentines day to get him to prove his love.  I am not saying this to gloat (is that spelled right?)  Even when i was single, this day really didn't make me feel special even when a new boyfriend would get flowers.  I would enjoy the gesture and not be a humbug about it... but it just doesn't make my world spin!

I like it! It is kind of forced, but if you're in a relationship and you're kind
of a gooey couple, its a nice thing to happen! I always used to go out for
dinner on Valentines night, then once I stayed home with a boyfriend and
we cooked dinner etc. It was like any other night I guess, but we made
especially nice food. etc. This year I'm single, so I'm going to look the
other way!

ive been given so realy nice presents on valentines day - underwear etc. it
feels like another birthday! so im cheering the commerciality of it!

last year i wrote my boyfriend a little note and then a chocolate makes
encased it in a chocolate heart. so he ate it after dinner and then found
the note. it was cute! he loved it.

My girlfriends really into it, so I dont want to disappoint her. I'm taking
her to her favourite restaurant. If she's happy, I'm happy.
