I went to my yoga class on Friday, and although I was the most unflexible person in the class - ! - I did enjoy it. And I definitely felt it in every muscle afterwards - the backs of my legs are still aching from all that stretching! I also enjoyed the relaxation section at the end of the class, when they turned off the lights, and focused on breathing and relaxing each and every muscle. I could have fallen asleep right there and then! I'm going to go once a week. It's a much better experience than going to the gym!

Whittle! I am so happy for you. There is nothing better than lying down at the end of your class and you relax ever muscle in your body, your mind naturally drifts. I can never stop thinking when I run. When i practise yoga I can switch off completely and concentrate on my body. I am seriously not flexible but slowly slowly that little bit more. How is your sleeping at night? I have been the busiest bee last week so couldn't check in. Issy x

Thanks Isabella, the sleeping is better. Hot flushes have returned though they aren't too bad right now, and they - and my thoughts - aren't keeping me awake at night anymore. Thank you for checking in! The yoga instructor said just the same - that I would become more flexible with each class. I can't wait!

hey peeps I just came across this and was touched by the kindness from Issy...you really are such a sweet person. Im totally with you too, Im a Pilates teacher and personal trainer - Whittle - you are never to old or young to try any form of exercise, and its brilliant that you are going to yoga classes, your flexibility and strength and confidence will increase week by week - you could also get yourself a little book on yoga poses and perhaps practise every day the Sun salutation - thats the 12 moves they normally use as a warm up. Its a brilliant way to relax and focus the mind at the beginning or end of everyday. It might also help you sleep a little better too. Wishing you well. Fi

hey hey, Have to say, you guys caught me off guard with your messges, really sweet of you to say, I just like to give my 2 cents anywhere I can you know? I agree with you (whittle) getting a yoga book, I like hatha yoga more than others like iyengar etc, hatha is the easiest one in my opinion. my mum and i practice it together (she is now more flexible than me) Issy x

Yes, hatha is the one I did. I don't really understand the difference with the other ones, but it is the one that I was recommended by the sports centre. I've been doing some of that slow breathing too, and it's remarkably relaxing!

hey hey! I love this forum, such great advice all around. I love yoga and am no expert, but think Iyengar compared to Hatha is a bit more dynamic so positions can be a bit tougher but generally have the same fundamental motivations. on the breathing... i once got so into the yoga breathing, when you breath out fast with a tensed stomach that I lost inches off my waist! crasy right? i just got into the routine of doing it on the tube, in my car, while walking... shame I got out of the habit though. Anyhoo, really pleased to read all the positivity. Disco x
