Hi everyone -

I posted this message right before my computer crashed that had a few questions in it. I'll ask them again now so I can get some answers hopefully. First, I'm 22 and I've been on Propecia for about 6 months and have seen pretty good results. I also use Nizoral shampoo but experience quite a bit of dandruff and itchy scalp.

I'm finishing uni and seeing a rapid amount of hairloss. I've noticed that after a night of drinking, the next morning when I take a shower there seems to be more hair fallign out than normally. Is there any relation between alcohol and hairloss??? I love to drink, but I'd definitely give it up to keep my hair.

I was on Accutane before and noticed that my hair started thinning soon after I came off the medicine. Does Accutane have any relation to hair loss? If so, is there something that can be done?

Can hairloss be caused by dandruff? In that case, if I started taking Propecia thinking that my hairloss was related to genetics when it was really due to dandruff, could Propecia actually be causing hair loss?? I'm not sure if I phrased that question well.

Anyway, I just need some answers. I can't believe I'm already losing my hair pretty rapidly. My dad and his dad both still have a full head of hair and my mothers dad didn't start losing his hair until so much later in life. Doesn't make sense to me.

anyways thanks in advance..

There has been no study saying that drinking will increase hair loss, but that type of statement has been made many times on hair loss forums and no definitive answer has ever been decided upon. Personally I say keep it in moderation and do not maki it a habit of getting plastered everytime you drink becuase excess drinking is definitely not good for your liver.

Dandruffis commonly linked to people suffering from MPB (Male Pattern Baldness) most likely it is the MPB that is causing your dandruff and not the other way around. Proepcia lowers the amount of DHT in your system, which is the stuff that is causing your hair to fall out, even if you did not have MPB taking Propecia would not cause your hair loss.

I started losing my hair at 19 and because of our young age the hair loss does set on more rapidly than it would for someone older. My father didn't start losing his hair till he was in his late 20s and his father had a full head of hair when he died in his 80s. The hair loss gene bounces around from genertaion to generation and doesnt have a set time to kick in, it just does, which is unfortuante for people who start losing their hair in early life.

Propecia will not do you any other harm however you must remain aware that unprotected sex whilst on Propecia is not a good idea as it harms women.

hope thats a help.

about drinking ive heard it both ways - drinking is good for your hair but also damages etc...best to stick to light beer then,,,

the other thing you asked that hair loss was caused by dandruff - This is NOT the case - dandruff is the sympton of something not being right with your hair and should be addressed. Propecia does not cause hair loss as you state!!!! For sure it is the opposite. Propecia works as lowering testosterone (which as i am sure you are aware) is the trigger for hair loss.

Good luck!!!
