basically im really depressed about losing my hair. what makes it worse is how quickly it started. i was 18 when i first noticed that i was losing hair. it was a really big shock to me.

becuase ive never worried about losing my hair. everyone in my immediate family have full heads of hair. so it didnt cross my mind that i would lose it.

what makes it even worse is that iv just discovered that i could have done something about it. but i had no idea about a a new hair loss treatment called propecia. i never really looked for treatments becuase i thought there were none available. if they were then why did i see so many bald people about ect.

what p*sses me off is that my doctor never told me about any treatments. he just gave me a blood test. and the specialist didnt either when i saw him three years ago.

its really heartbreaking to know that i could have done something about it. but i didnt have no idea about any treatment. ie theres no adverts on tv about it. which is a bit weird. how are people suppose to know about treatments if its not advertised.

im going to start taking propecia now and see if it can prevent any further hair loss. which it claims to do.

has anyone taken propecia?? would you take it. i reallly think there should be more awareness on treatmets for hairloss. so many people thinkg that theres nothing you can do about it. which is what i thought untill now. this treatment has been around for the last 7 years.

it really p1sses me off that i didnt know about this treatment before.

just read your post.

Firslty, the UK government does not allow prescription medication to be advertised - i.e. have you ever seen an advert on TV for Propecia? Whereas in the USA they do allow advertising but then at the end give you the 5 minute side effects disclaimer.

Are you now compltely bald or is it just that you are thinning?

Remember that there are lots of treatments and options you can have/use. Propecia can be taken with success, even re-growth and if that doesnt work then there are surgical procedures such as hair weaving.

In the grand scheme of things hairloss is distressing but there are worse medical conditions (of course) out there. Sean Connery. Look at him, he was bald since he was in his early 20's, in all the Bond movies he is actually weraing a little toupee. Anyways thats besides the point - the point is that you can do something about it - and the success rate is VERY high. Have confidence and it will be fine. If your worried that it wont make you look attractive then thats the girls problem. She will be worried that you think that she is overweight, or that she is not tall enough, or that she doesnt look like beyonce etc etc etc....

Be yourself, be confident, confidence breeds confidence (girls love that) and remember that you can easily do something to correct your hair issues. There are treatments available!

Have a good one and CHIN UP.

If you are going through a bad time remember the words of Churchill...."If your going through hell, keep walking..."

im not completly bald touch wood  but im thinning on my crown alot. i did have access to the internet when i was 19 im now 23.  but i didnt come across propecia for some reason.  alot of sites on the interent are just scams that dont work.  wgich put me off the whole treatment thing.  im not sure if propecia will work for me now.  ive been told im number 5 on the norwwod ham, ilton scale.   will it help me??

if i had known about propecia then i would have started taking it at 19 and maybe i would have alot more hair now on my head if i did.

in my attempt to find a place where i could find imparcial and genuine advice.  i went to the NHS site.   i thought this would be a trusted site as im from the uk.  abd if there were any treatements out there.  they would list them them.  but alls they seem to say that there were no treaments and that you should just accept hairloss as natural.

they didn mention propecia at all which is clincaly proven treatment.  i think its a shame.  that pepeole are not being told about treatments available.

You are unlikely to grow much hair back. What propecia typically does is prevents further loss.

Minoxidil (rogaine) will help you grow some back.

Nizoral shampoo is also worth using as its axtive ingredient for dandruff also has anti androgenic properties which help protect hair.

I was in Superdrug today and the guy ahead of me was buying propecia on a private prescription for £30.80 per month.

hullo worried...

..can relate to your current feelings. I started losing my hair at about 20 i think, (was probably denying it for a bit before this though).

I started using propecia together with regaine about 2 years ago, (am now 32), and used this regime religiously.  Initially, (like others have advised), I lost more hair and this lasted about 4-6 weeks and then I definately seemed to lose less.

I have thicker hair now and don't think I have receeded anymore.  It's hard to tell yourself because it's quite gradual but others have commented my hair looks thicker, (well relatives mainly my friends still took the p*ss). I honestly think that these products will work provided you do not spend much of your time worrying about your hairloss.  I think that this is one of the main killers in acclerating the process which counteracts the effectiveness of the treatments.  I noticed the main improvements after I stopped stressing about it all the time, (it'll consume you if you let it i reckon).

Weird, but, after I decided it was working, it seemed to work better.  Could be that the treatments themselves were solely responsible but i reckon the fact that I stopped worrying about it had an impact of it's own.

I have not experienced any side-effects from using propecia although I did experience a very itchy sensation and a bit of dry skin for the first 4-6 weeks using regaine, although this is now ok.

I'm not a muppet and I am very sceptical of some stuff on these sites as i think some sellers target these praying on your insecurities.  I would concentrate on treatments that have some medical backing.

Just try to be as healthy as you can without turning into a health freak and stop smoking if u do cause I don't think this helps the situation.

Hope this helps...

I know that this is probably going to sound nuts but has anyone thought about spraying their hair, i mean if you spray your hair at the scalp region then you will hide the contrast effect of like me having black hair and a whitish complexion...?

I used to work with this guy that did that and i think he kinda - stress on kinda - got away with it.
