Morning all hope everyone had a good weekend. Today is the day I am starting my health kick and hopefully shed a few pounds... well a lot really! after being on reductil 2 1/2 years ago I have managed to gain over 2 1/2 stone... Aarrrrr but I did it once I will do it again, only this time without reductil, got some tablets in america that give you energy (by god I need it) and since last time I was on here we got an assistance dog for my daughter. So I will be doing a lot of dog walking and then back to running too. Here goes..... hope everyone has a great week xxx ali

Hi Ali, well I've a bit of an advantage as I had dental implant surgery on Saturday and can't chew much ! the right side of my face is very puffy and I have a black eye. I've gained about half a stone of my 4 stone loss on the reds so not too bad, but still need to lose about another stone as well. Not on any tabs at the moment wondering about the generic reds which are so much cheaper and working so well for lots of people but not keen on going back to not sleeping well. So this week I'll just eat soft food and see how I go !! EF xx

EF, that is an advantage lol. my first time on reds, in the first week i bit a rivita and completely smashed my back tooth so I couldn't eat for a week! so far had breakfast of bacon no fat at all on it and grilled on bread but used mustard and tommy sauce instead of butter and loads of water... so far so good but it is only 1pm xx

Elvis Fan – I have had dental implants recently I had 5 done and am surprised you have a black eye?? Was it done under a general anaesthetic? I found it painful when the local anasthetic wore off but strong painkillers helped. I also took ibuprofen and paracetamol about half an hour before the procedure which helped as I had minimal swelling. I also thought I would be eating through a straw but amazingly I managed to put chocolate squares in my mouth and they melted!

Oh chocolate brilliant luckkyloo ! wow five implants ! were they in the upper or lower jaw ? my one is the upper tooth to the right of my two front teeth. I had a lot of bone loss and presented quite a challenge I think, so they used bovine compound (yes I'm officially an old cow !) as I didn't have enough of my own. How about you ?

Without boring you with details my old dentist was crap and my teeth were a right mess and over the years I ended up with top and lower partial dentures through gum disease etc. She also forgot to take out a retained root in one tooth which got infected and spread to the other tooth so I had to lose those 2 also. I finally went to see a private dentist and since September last year I have had: 5 implants, 4 extractions, one operation to remove the retained root (which they couldn’t find so will have to go back again, and they gave me 6 stitches all done under local anaesthetic) and 12 crowns! I also need within the next few months 2 more implants and 2 more crowns! I am also complaining about my previous dentist’s incompetence, because the barbaric dentures she gave me were rough metal and ill fitting so they ruined my palette and the top didn’t have enough teeth on there so to compensate she made them larger than the others and they were all the wrong colour! I have been told by my present dentist that my gums are not the healthiest but he doesn’t recommend bone surgery as it is quite traumatic. I think I have already had enough trauma so am happy not to have any more than necessary! But amazingly, I did manage to eat melted chocolate ha ha PS sorry I did bore you with the details!

Heavens what a nightmare for you and I thought I'd been quite brave ! lol. No I wasn't bored at all by your story. Mine was after a crown came out after many years and the bone loss was so bad there was no hope for a a replacement crown. So it was local anesthetic, cutting of the gum and eventually stitched back after lots of hammering with a mallet etc. Just been for a check with the dentist and he is very pleased with the progress. I'm also on antibiotics and can now do salt water and corsodyl rinses as of today. It has certainly put me off my food and I've already lost two pounds !

The worst part for me what the turning of the tool to ‘screw them in’ He couldn’t get stability on 2 of them and kept trying and trying so it was all very painful afterwards. I also had problems waiting for permanent teeth after the implants when the temporary teeth kept falling out at the drop of a hat, and me having to keep going back there at a momen’ts notice for him to put them back in. They once came out on Saturday night in a pub and there were 5 front teeth joined together. As you can imagine I had to get out of there quickly as it was not a pretty sight with 5 spikes showing rather than teeth LOL
