This morning I did the devils work and weighed again. 27st 4lbs - no way! Weighed again 27st 6lbs. Felt a bit unhappy and tried again 27st 1lb - oh the madness. My bathroom floor is concrete under lino and very uneven. It seems if there is even a slight slight bit of movement to the scales, I weigh more. Repositioned the scales and came up twice as 27st 2lbs but for safety I'm gonna go with 27st 4lbs. But hey, one reading said 27st 1lb and that did look mighty fine to see!

hehehehehe I so sympathise with the scale saga. I have stick on tiles over hardboard on my floor and I make sure to line the scale up in the same spot exactly each time or I end up weighing anything up to a kg lighter or heavier than I actually am. I have known about this quirk since the start so I decided the best way to get round it was to decide on one spot and stick with it. The loss is accurate enough, and I can gain and lose a kilo easily in a day so I am not bothered if the scale is one or two out overall. I have been known to scootch the scales to the 'sweet spot' (ahem), just to get a feel of what that is going to be like - honest! I haven't told hubby this interesting fact so when he weighs himself he may come in beaming, or fretting. (nah, he is not overweight, and he is not scarred for life for not getting an accurate reading, so I keep myself secretly amused at his expense - poor guy) I do find that a tape measure is much more telling nowadays, and it took ages to see any movement in this way, even though the scales were reading lighter. Now I am holding steady at a 20kg loss, the tape measurement numbers are still getting smaller. I give up on making sense of any of it and will trust that if I eat right and so on, fat will go without my proving it. (but what fun and what a motivating thing to see the evidence!) Wonder what would happen if I try the scales on another hard floor? Could I perhaps arrange to lose 5 kg in a week???? LOL Sue

Hi geminigirl and siouxanne To be honest, the only other floors are wooden floorboards which move anyway and the kitchen and bathroom floors which are both the same - no really flat spots. If I make sure I always weigh in the same way then the weight loss will be correct. On to the serious stuff now. Before I started Reductil I had previously had like a psorisis of the scalp. I tried everything including prescribed things which just started to make my hair fall out. Finally even after trying natural stuff, I used a L'Oreal dandruff shampoo which worked really well. However, in the last week I've started scratching my scalp a little and have dried skin scabs on it. I also seem to be shedding more hair than usual. The scabs maybe because I alternate with my favourite shampoos and sometimes use them for a few weeks before the dry skin comes back. I hope I am just over worried about the hair loss and it's nothing to worry about. I'll speak to the doctor about it next week. Breakfast was the usual and I ate it really slowly today. Lunch was two sandwiches and dinner was naughty - boiled turkey, sweetcorn, mushrooms, pasta and a stir in tomato and garlic sauce with some cheese on top. But the best bit is, is that I am not snacking inbetween meals. I have three meals and most days nothing else. Sometimes I have some fruit, sometimes lunch is fruit. Padmaster General is wanting his time now, so I shall say tatty falloo til the next time.

Hi Moongoddess, I'm afraid hairloss is just aother side effect of the reds. For us who have had this side effect we didn't end up bald or bald spots, just noticed alot more coming out when brushing or washing hair. I found that a herbal tablet from holland and barrett helped me, its called hair skin and nails. Sharon x

Oh Shazzy that's great, thank you. I've got some of those. I'll start taking them. Mum has gone for 3 days respite - she's home on Sunday - which means 3 days of no care workers annoying me and not hearing mum calling out every 10 seconds! And the smell will be gone for a bit, anyone who has carer will know what I mean. Not had my breakfast yet and not weighed, but I guess I'll weigh a ton because of the pasta! Will let you all know later.

Well, I have had the same problem for years. I use Polytar shampoo sometimes to help alleviate the itchiness. I also tend to rotate through shampoos, making sure to get the least scented ones,as I attribute the psoriasis to all the chemical additives. I hate that it seems like I am not looking after my hair when I have flaky skin, but truth be told I probably fuss over my scalp more than most people I know. Nothing stops the problem, and then I get perhaps a 3 month clear spell in winter. I have a lot of hair, but very fine, which is good because I am losing like a dog moulting right now. I will look out for the products mentioned here to see if they will help. My head is so itchy I feel like I have a case of the nits (kids did have them recently!) I have checked - and no, I don't. Pasta is not so bad, you could have been eating deep fried potatoes! I consider pasta a healthy option for my diet. Strange how we have different perspectives on foods.I suppose it depends on what sauce you have and how much of it you eat... Hope you enjoy some personal time for yourself these next few days. Sue

Hi Sue, I've found L'Oreal's Elvive Intense works for me. I don't use any other chemicals on my hair/scalp. I went through everything, T Gel, Nizoral, Head and Shoulders, the lot. I do use Lush shampoos in between using the L'Oreal but they don't stop the skin flaking and they have no chemicals in. I understand what you mean by the itching - I used to just sit scratching my head for hours on end. I'd wash my hair and as it dried huge and I mean huge flakes of skin would just lift away from my scalp and if I didn't scratch it all off it drove me mad with the itching. I've also got it in my eyebrows and in the last 6 months started getting dry flaking and itchy skin on my face. I have to say I never had any of this before I started being a carer. I also had for a time wet eczema on the outside edges of my hands. Again, never had this before. Also have become allergic to penicillin and have to carry an epipen. Apart from stress I attributed this to my excessive weight. But being on a purer diet has not eased any of it as yet. The scalp thing is a damn menace. I know what you mean about people thinking you don't care for your hair. Just was a bit upet seeing the hair come out - I gather it stops when you come off the Reds?

Oh yes, the dry skin in the eyebrows, and now between the eyes. It would be funny if it wasn't so annoying, because I actually have really oily skin and have battled teenage and then adult acne most of my life! When will the skin make up it's mind... I know that most of the ideas around food causing acne are actually myths, but a healthy balanced diet has improved my skin. Perhaps the weightloss is starting to reduce my oestrogen levels finally? I can't tell for sure since I have had a hysterectomy, (the need for which is possible to attribute to being morbidly obese) Well, I have to say the one thing that helped all the skin and hair conditions this year was getting into the sea in summer for the first time in years. Nothing quite like good old fashioned salt for the skin! I am not going for a dip in the middle of winter, so will just make do with some alternatives. I hope the hair loss does stop when we come off Reds, would be annoyed to have to cope with being bald as well as saggy skinned. Hey, I am finally getting to moan about saggy skin, how cool is that! I have the support panties all ready - so bring it on! Not sure what to do about the batwings though? I imagine it will all shrink given time, and I am happy to not fill out my skin any more. AH, the joys of getting older and being on Reds. I was looking at the back of my hands, my goodness, I have my granny's hands. All wrinkly and old. (I have not been having enough to drink obviously, combined with weightloss) Actually, my fingetips and palms of my hands have been really dry lately, not something I have had an issue with ever before. Is this common on reds too? Or is that just me? Well, I am off to my bed. I have been having an insomniac night tonight. Not a problem as I am on holiday tomorrow.(today) WHEEEEEEE I am not really falling apart, but from this post it seems like it! So, to finish on a positive, I can run up the stairs now and - I got to sit in the skinny chair at the medical centre yesterday, (the one with arms) - and then I got out without having to pry it off my butt! Life's really good this side of 20kg lighter, honest! I have 10kg to first goal, then another 20kg to get to being 'bonny','sturdy', or 'bigboned'. I will be happy with that. I think it should take me 'till this time next year before I near that final goal. Not bad considering how long I worked at getting all the fat on in the first place. Well, having hijacked your diary, I turn it back over to you. perhaps I should consider a diary too. Hmmm, I will think about that. Night Sue
