For all the newbies... Reductil works but there is no magic bullet. What do you need to do? 1. Get committed to weight loss. Decide "this is my chance". Be determined. 2. Take the pills because they reduce your appetite and help you as you diet. 3. Increase your exercise - very/most important. 4. Change for life. Realize that most people regain weight afterwards and that you must use this as a life changing experience - to change your eating habits for life and to be more active. When you stop the pills you will be fitter and more able to keep it off. I can write this both from a personal and professional experience - professional because I work in obesity research. I lost 13 kilos on reductil around 2 years ago and have only regained 5 of them, although there have been times when I have had to work hard at it to keep on track. Regular exercise was the key. I cycle to and from work weekdays (16 km, 20-25 min each way). When I tried a second course of the drugs, they didn't help because I was not committed. I have found it helpful to have a diary monitoring everything I eat and all my calorie expenditure (exercise). I use weight loss resources on the web. It helps me by 1. showing me everything I eat, 2. encouraging me to exercise more (so that I get more calories to eat) and 3. providing feedback as to whether weight changes are likely to be real or not ie if my calorie balance is negative then I can be confident I will lose. Calorie balance is essentially the calories you eat minus those you use (for basal metabolism and by exercise). Basal metabolism varies - the larger you are, the more energy you burn. A typical 70 kg lady needs around 1800- 2000 per day for basal metabolism, for example. Finally, these are serious drugs. Know what you are doing when you take them. They can increase your blood pressure (which is serious). They also cause hair loss, constipation, insomnia and a dry mouth. Good luck everyone. Skinny My Weight Chart:

Hi Skinny How are you doing?? I have been off reds since mid january now and have managed to stay the same weight (even though I still want to loose a bit more) You are so right you really do have to stay focused when you come off the tablets. I came off because the side effects where worse than the weight loss. Hope everyone is doing well with the reds. Please all newbies listen t to your bodies, don't starve yourselves and think it is a good way to loose the weight. Have fun! xxx ali

I found the hair loss traumatic and, for me, it is the reason why I took so long to have a second attempt. I stopped after a few weeks because I had the side-effects and did not have weight loss (lack of determination). In obesity research, I also saw an impressive graph showing that for most obese patients, weight loss is not the problem - most can lose weight. The problem is keeping it off. It convinced me about the need for life-style change. Cheers Skinny

Great thread Skinny... I think some people are thinking that taking Reds is an instant cure for being fat... I'm sure we all wish that was the case but sadly its not. This message has really emphasised the fact that we all need to take this chance and grasp it with both hands... Thanks for that
