so I went shopping for food and ive have been working out the percentage of the calories from fat and making sure it stays under 30.
taking fat gs X 9 (9 calories in a gram of fat) then dividing by the calories and X 100 = % of calories made up from fat... if its more than 30% i dont touch it. is that the right way to do it?
I don't think there's anything wrong doing what you are but what I do is take the 30% of calories from fat over the whole day.
eg on a 1500 calorie a day diet up to 500 calories could come from fat. At 9 calories a gram that would make a total of around 55g of fat a day which for me was shared out between 3 meals and 2 snacks with my evening meal having a slightly higher proportion of fat (say upto 20g) than at breakfast or lunch.
This way I allow myself the odd high fat items in very small quantities eg olive oil, and its not going to cause accidents
