Hi all. have been reading the boards and saw the great results you lot have been having on Xenical. Tomorrow I'm starting a high protein diet which includes some fats(nuts, cheese being two) but I've been thinking for months of asking my GP to be put on Xenical, now because one GP at my clinic didn't approve of Xenical he put me on Reductil in April 04 which didn't work as I didn't make the effort.
Now I'm thinking of going to other Dr and asking him but I wanna know has anyone tried this combination of Xenical AND high protein diet? Or should I just stick to one method?
I will let you know that I have. I think the only way that I can tolerate eating a diet that was at times about 50% fat calories with the Xenical (you are only supposed to eat up to 30% calories from fat on this) is because my digestive system normally tends towards constipation.
Even on that though, I didn't lose a terrible amount of weight. I am trying diet alone along with Xenical at breakfast only (I eat a full-fat omelet in the morning). Now I've seemed to plateau again, but I'm going to see if increasing my exercise can help any. Am already exercising a ton though!
So yes, in my opinion it would work, but most people couldn't tolerate it. Also if you are looking at eating high-fat foods that aren't healthy then how are you going to learn to eat for the rest of your life?
I dont follow any of the official diets but think what I eat is probably closest to the 40:30:30 ratio of carbs to protein and fat as stipulated in the zone diet. Its worked for me so far as the main change I made was to shift my focus on to watching my carb intake. Actually looked into the Atkins but realised that whilst I dont seem to crave the carbs anything like I used to there was still no way I could go without completely. So that said, whatever you decide make it something you can do long term as depriving yourself will only lead to failure.
Hello Heidi and Lottie. Tyvm for your replies. I saw a locum doctor this morning who was reluctant to start me on Xenical there and then and told me to see my own G.P. in a month. He said to keep trying to lose weight in the meantime. I didn't tell him I'd started the high protein diet cause I thought he probably wouldn't approve. It's similar to Atkins but I think it differs by gradually re-introducing carbs, whereas I think on Atkins its a no-no forever?
Even though I'm only on my second day I've noticed I don't want to eat between meals and feel fuller longer.
