hello I used to row when I was at school, I do remember it being very hard work! Id recommend a good sturdy pair of gloves and some padding for your bottom! I got very sore in those areas and got alot of blisters on my hands which were very painful. There is also a very good anti-chaffing gel called Lanacane that works wonders for keeping the skin on the bottom and backs of legs free from burns. Best of luck, its a great way to keep fit! judith

Judith, thank you for the info, I know it is going to be hard as it is completely alient to me and while i do row in the gym I know it is totally different in the water. When my taster day comes a long i will def have some good gloves and will contemplate wearing my padded cycling shorts under my tracksuit... Thanks for your support! Issy x

My friend who is a rower has a totally amazing body! She says it works everything. It looks like a really lovely thing to do in the summer. I actually called one of the rowing clubs in Putney, but they told me they have a team and you've got to join at the very beginning of the season. They weren't very helpful, so it kind of took the wind out of my sails. But I'd be interested to see what you think of it!

my brother rows for a local team and he is committed to both mornings at the weekend and they are asking him to committ more in the lead up to the henly regatta... not sure if he is going to as it will me ridiculously early starts 2 days a week... but as a beginner maybe they won't expect too much committment, who knows. i went out with a guy who rowed, and he was so fit! i couldnt bare the early mornings but he loved gettingout early with the sun coming up and everything. but he said it worked every muscle in his body and he liked hanging out with the the other guys after wards (they really liked to booze it!) as your using ur chest muscles a lot would it make boobs smaller??
