i was reading today that running can slow the ageing process, it was
saying it on the bbc news.
that people who run have less health issues when theyre older, and are
less likely to do from cancer than non runners. i used to jog all the time in
my early 20's but now i just cant as it hurts my back. but lucky you for all
you able bodied people who can!
im doing my second weigh in since i started reductil, this friday.
and i did go for a swim yesterday - middle of the morning, no people -
so im not feeling to guilty for not exercising now!

That is great news FLOG,

A bit of exercise is better than no exercise.

About the running, even if the bbc say all that, i have to say running isn't for everyone.  i have bad knees, so running can really cause inflammation!! unlike swimming which is easier on the joints...

You may have a healthy heart from running but I can imagine your body suffering more at an earlier age compared to people that swim or play tennis etc...

thats what i thought too isabella but it said that the studies showed
that there was no increased joint problems among the runners.
hang on...i'll see if i can find the article online...

"Running not only appeared to slow the rate of heart and artery related
deaths, but was also associated with fewer early deaths from cancer,
neurological disease, infections and other causes.
And there was no evidence that runners were more likely to suffer
osteoarthritis or need total knee replacements than non-runners -
something scientists have feared."

interesting. i would have thought all that pounding was bad too,
especially on tarmac.

well for me I guess I have sore knees anyway... if I dont have decent trainers, i won't think about running as my knees get achey and so do my ankles.  I guess everyones body is different.

i would prefer to climb a mountain than run a marathon that is for sure!!!

That's great that you went for a swim FLOG - I didnt see this til just now!
I think we've all got to up the exercise a bit, whether we like it or not!
I detest running, but I do go for walks in the park which is really lovely.
You can take all your surroundings in too. I make sure its a fast walk
though!
Climbing a mountain sounds pretty exhausting. Watching all those celebs
climbing kilimanjaro last year was harrowing!
But just a bit of exercise to help the reductil along is important.

it's all about doing something you enjoy, as it means you will do it again.. doing something you hate will def make you put it off for another time no??

Totally agree Issy.

The thought of running for me... it makes me stress out... I don't know why.  If you are overweight, like me, who is also on reductil, my personal trainer told me that running would put a lot of impact on my knees... and so I walk fast or I swim or I use the rowing machines.

I am happy doing my wee routine.  keeps me busy and the reductil really helps.  Have lost 7 kilos since starting 5 weeks ago!

So I am on a good pace!
