Can diet supplements cause heart attack? I work out at least 4 times a week and I am trying to gain weight, so I have been taking diet supplements to get a little bigger.  However, there has been couple of times that I feel like I am having a mini heart attack… kind of scary!

Which diet supplements are you taking? If you are feeling strange then its
a very good indicator that your body is not happy. As they say - you
should listen to your body! Ask your doctor, or maybe someone in the
gym that you can trust to give good advice.

Just saw this Medallo - I hope you're feeling better? I don't know anything
about weight gain supplements, as I'm trying to do the exact opposite!
But if something makes you feel bad, then it must be bad for you.
Hope you found another way to increase muscle mass effectively - and
safely!

Hi medallo, my brother used to take the same supplement and from what I know, he never had any issues with it. I’ll ask him a little more about it and I’ll get back to you. Meanwhile you should stop taking it just to make sure that you don’t have an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients.

I thought protein supplements were supposed to reduce the risk of heart
attacks? That's odd.

It could be that you are over doing the gym sessions mate.

Maybe you should be exercising under supervision?

High protein shakes can have bad consequences, particularly  if you
take them for a long time - so be careful!
These are some of the side effects, the most obvious being Weight
Gain...Third down is some info on Heart Disease. So yes, if you're
feeling strange, I'd ease of drinking these things...

Weight Gain
high-protein shakes are often high in calories. If you are trying to lose
weight, protein shakes may act as viable meal replacements. However,
protein shakes will cause weight gain if they are consumed in addition
to ordinary meals. Note that this excess weight is stored as fat, not
muscle, unless you are also increasing your level of exercise to
accommodate your increased calorie load.

Digestive Problems
Protein shakes may lead to digestive complaints such as gas,
abdominal cramping and constipation.

Heart Disease
Although no studies have directly linked protein shakes to heart
disease, high-protein foods can increase the risk of certain
cardiovascular ailments. For example, many protein shakes are made
with full-fat dairy products, which can elevate levels of triglycerides
and cholesterol in the human body. Use protein shakes cautiously if
you have a pre-existing heart condition.

Liver and Kidney Disease
Extremely high-protein diets can worsen kidney or liver disease. If you
drink very large amounts of high-protein drinks, your body may have
difficulty eliminating the waste products of protein metabolism. This
may lead to the gradual breakdown of kidney and liver tissue.

Wow! Pod17, thank you so much for all the useful information about the diet supplements and its side effects. I’m not going to lie, although the diet supplement I  am taking make me feel terrible, I think I’m addicted to it. definitely  it is hard to leave something on the side when you actually feel that it is working.

If you are addicted to it that's not good at all. Those are some serious side
effects listed there! If I felt terrible as you say, I wouldn stop taking
whatever it was that was making me feel that way. It's not worth it! If
you're dead from a heart attack what is the use of a perfect body in a
coffin? Look after yourself!
