Hi there, I’m a little worry as I believe I have manorexia. I was just wondering if this is common in guys or if I’m just being a total idiot. Can a guy get soo extreme as a girl or is manorexia a mild case of overweight fear?
thanks

hang on - are you saying you are overweight and obsessed with your
weight? or you are not eating and are underweight? Its not exactly
clear, mate. I have known guys who have lost an awful lot of weight
and their personalities have totally changed. Normally its the girlfriend
or wife and her weight obsession that starts the whole thing. I have
two mates who have been 'shaped' by their wives. I barely recognise
my old friends. They don't look to happy either although they say they
are. It's a strange one. Obviously its not good to be over weight, but
it's scary to be obsessed about it too.
Explain your situation a little more fully...
Cheers,
P

are you a slim guys who throws up on purpose after you eat? or do you try not to eat at all for fear of putting on weight?

It is a definite problem with men as well as women, just becuase it is not as well known in men doesn't make it any less dangerous.

Please consult someone about it, a doctor, a friend, you are putting your life at risk.  SHare your story and we will all try and help!

The Beat Helplines are used to talking to men. Formerly the Eating Disorders Association, Beat is a charity founded in 1989 offering fact sheets, a helpline and advice on specialists and counsellors in your area on anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and related eating disorders.

I found that online, there is an adult helpline if you need to find out some answers or tell your story.  Get in touch, we are all here for support!

Its much more common than people think! All those men's health
magazine etc with the six packs on the front do the same damage that all
the skeletal models do in women's mags, to the psyche!
If you think you have a problem, then definitely talk to someone. Beat
sounds like a helpful organisation. hope you feel better soon!

It's not talked about enough - that men can suffer from image issues too.
And the lengths that they will go to - just like women. I wonder how many
men are on reductil, compared to women? It certainly seems to be mostly
women on this forum.
