Children as young as five are being treated for anorexia - its shocking. Often its because they live in a household with someone who suffers from anxiety or depression or other mental health disorders. But sometimes it can be because family members tease them, which can result in binge overeating or not eating at all. It is so important for us to speak to our children about body image! When I had my children I was a very healthy weight, and I practised what I preached. It was only after my divorce that my life fell apart and I turned to food for comfort, now having to turn to xenical for help. My children are a normal healthy weight with a good relationship with food. But it fills me with dread to think of such young souls having food issues that will undoubtedly follow them for the rest of their lives.

i found this post pretty shocking. i was a chubby child and my father used to make fun of me and tut whenever i wanted to eat. it made me feel so guilty, that i started to eat in secret when he wasnt around. id eat as much as i could and then try not to eat when he was watching. so that meant when i was older i always like to have fatty snacks on my own, o found it comforting. i started a pattern. i dont do it as much now as i know its bad for me, but my body has never been slim so i dont know whether its the food or just simply the body im born with.

I am sorry to hear that Sasha. It is quite overwhelming the responsibilities we have as a parent and how the slightest mistake can lead to such problems in the child. I can imagine that you father would hate to hear the distress he has caused. I hope you lose the weight you want to lose. And I hope that pattern is truly broken forever.

thanks whittleaway : ) my dad's great, i just dont think he realised the impact the teasing would have. i will know not to do it to my own kids thats for sure. im now realising how much fat is in things because of reading the labels to coincide with the xenical, and im realsing how many things we're fattier than i thought they were. so this is hopefully going to help me retrain my eating habits.

Sasha - how are you getting on with the xenical? Have you broken your habits? That is most of the battle! But also now having the knowledge of good and bad foods. It's a process of education. But reading the labels and understanding what they mean are a vital part of it.
