Hi All, its no good Ive had to give up taking Acomplia today. I was just starting week eight and feeling terrible. I went to my GP because my usually lovely wavey hair had become thin and lifeless. I had black bags under my eyes and began getting really bad hot flushes five or six times a day. I think I aged 10 years in 8 weeks. This was after a really good start on the drug. My GP took one look at me and told me to stop taking it immediatley. To be honest I looked like a drug addict which is not a good look when I'm working as a childrens social worker !! My GP told me he is not going to recommend the drug to further patients until more medical evdience is available about the drug. I thought I would be able to put up with any side effects in order to loose weight. But if I look like this after 8 weeks heaven knows what Id be like after the recommended 12 months. Oh well I gave it a go, hope you all have better look than me and not such extreme problems. At least on the good side with the money I save in a year I can join the gym and go on holiday to the seychelles. Just be careful all of you. Good Luck Caitlin x

I felt really unwell - like really bad flu, but the worst thing has been the anxiety, waking up feeling as though something really terrible has happened and not being able to shake the the feeling all day. Being really tired and wanting to just lie down and sleep. I did lose weight - about a stone in 5 weeks but it wasnt worth it. I have been off them for 2 weeks and I still feel ill. Diane

Hey, I took acomplia (as I felt I had had enough of xenical) but had to give up after 3 weeks I experienced the hair loss, the upset tum, the dizzyness (I was misjudging spaces and walking into door frames) persistent crying (or feeling like crying) and the cravings. To be honest I flushed them down the loo and ordered xen again. I feel much better but it took several weeks to get back to normal and start losing the weight again - total loss for far 84lbs over 10 months. The xen I only use when I know I am eating badily (buttery toast or puddings!!) but you have to allow yourself some days when you just want to eat badily.... and I am not one for suffering!! I think it is very brave of everyone to be so honest about being overweight. I know we all have our stories of how we were badily treated or hurt and how losing the weight makes you gain confidence. But I think it is more than that - its about self worth. We are all worth it. And if pills help us control our eating which in turn enables us to get a grip on our lives then that can only be good. Good luck !!

I know this sounds odd but it was a relief to read this thread as I too have had patchy hair loss after being on the drug for two months. I have well shiny spots on my head and I was worried that it was stress that was causing it. Since that time I have had a really bad upper respiratory tract infection and my GP has also taken me off the Acomplia. The help of honest people on this site is a great bonus as we all seem to be sharing the same horrible effects, dull lifeless and hair loss is not something I expected from this drug as there was no mention of it in the leaflet. I will be reading this site to see if any more people are experiencing the same thing. Wizzy

I've not suffered hair loss yet (fingers crossed) but I have wild dreams and struggle to sleep. And I feel quite depressed and demotivated about life and work which is unusual for me. I'm halfway through five boxes and will continue until I finish (unless of course hair becomes a problem). But my husband saw me taking Acomplia this morning and he looked at me in a really concerned way and said he didn't think it was working. Problem is, where to next?
