Hi Judith. Well we all have levels of hormones but post menopause they are a lot lower than a woman who still has monthly periods. If you ask for a testosterone and an estrodiol blood test, I am guessing that the results will show low levels for you. The estrodiol are the estrogen-type hormones which can be replaced with the HRT tablets we all know about. Who ever does your blood test I presume) will tell you if your levels are low. If you are taking HRT tablets and also want to use Intrinisa patches, I think the medics will recommend you change to patches for your HRT. Let us know how you get on. Take care

Hello Thankyou Oli for that information, it has proved quite useful. I have asked for some more blood tests to get done to find out my hormone levels so I know which is best suited for me. Im not on HRT though, do you have to be when taking Instrinsa? judith

Hi Judith, I believe the medics recommend some form of estrogen/estrodiol (what we call HRT} when using Intrinsa because usually, at menopause, both estrogen and testosterone are low. If you just replace the testosterone, the estrogen will still be low and one works with the other. Hope this makes sense. Let us know how you get on. I may take a few days to reply.

Hello Oli - I have already gone through the menopause and also had a hysterectomy some years ago, but as I was not with a partner, this never really bothered me. It is only recently that things are becoming more serious and we want to progress things onto the next level but I just have no desire or want at all, hence trying to find out as much information about Intrinsa before deciding to take it or not. judith

hello Oli - i decided to go with Intrinsa, i started my coruse on the weekend, and to be honest so far, i dont really feel any different. However - i noticed ive got a really itchy arm around the patch and it looks a little red when i take it off - perhaps thats normal for everyone? where would be the best place to position the patch too for maximum results? if thats possible? I was looking at other side effects etc on other rooms, and notice alot of people saying about the extra hair - have hairier arms since the menopause and worried they might get worse. Not really got much, if any facial hair so not sure it will affect me that way. Is it the same for all? judith

Hi Judith. The Intrinsa I'm on says to place the patch on the stomach between the pubes area and the belly button - either left or right and to swop the left or right each week. Not heard of putting it on the arm but not sure what the instructions are on your supply. If you read everything on this site about Intrinsa you will discover that it can take up to three months for the testosterone to work. I know it's a lot of reading! For myself it did take about three months before I got my sexual drive back. When I was on the testostertone implant pellets it was nearly instsnt but that's because the implants are inserted inside my skin so more easily available to the body. Excess hair is sometimes a consequence of menopause anyway. I think you should give Intrinsa a whirl for three months. As said before Judith, if you get side effects that you are not happy with - stop taking Intrinsa and you will go back to how you were before. Don't worry girl, relax and just go for it - at least give it the three months. It's best to get a blood test to reveal what your hormone levels are as we chatted about before. I understsand you've had a hysterectomy and ovary removal so hormones should be low. I know what you mean about going to the docs about low sex drive but they've heard it all before, honest, they wont be phased. Take the partner along and they will be very underststanding. Take care.

hello Thank you Oli for your support, it is so nice and reassuring to know there are other ladies out there going through this and who are able to share stories and experiences with. Now having read my instructions correctly, which I hadnt really done all the small print - ie about where to place the patch! I see it says on the tummy too!! So have been doing that now, it also states to give it a few months to start taking effect! I guess I ought to read up more on the instructions before getting into a panic! Thank you again, it really is so very nice to be able to talk with someone who knows how it feels. judith

I'm glad you've found the instructions! Apparently it's advised to put it on the stomach because testosterone works better going through a little bit of fat, which we all have on our stomachs. Now someone wiser than me might say I have simplified it but there you go. After a few weeks you should start to get 'the feeling' back again, if you know what I mean and then your drive should be back on track again. So just relax and go with the flow. You might as well give it the three months Judith. Let us know how you get on. All the best

hello Thank you Oli again for your wonderful words of wisdom. And also for pointing me to the instruction packet! Im not feeling very well today, think I am coming down with a cold. So not really feeling much today at all! Do you know if the patch affects other types of medication at all? for example flu remedies etc? It doesnt really say anything on the instructions, so I dont want to mix something and end up feeling worse for where. How long have you been taking Intrinsa? judith
