Daisy if you take it in your 20s, it will give you a beard if you're not careful! I doubt you'd be short of testosterone when you are so young. Intrinsa is testosterone. It's not like an aphrodisiac that anyone of any age could take to boost their sex drive - that's if there is such a thing that works. If you read through all the posts, you will find we've had these discussions before. Intrinsa is an androgen hormone, i.e. testosterone which women have in their bodies but to a very much smaller amount than men. Sorry to put a dampner on things for you. Take care.

hello daisy, I was rather upset after reading your post that I wanted to wait till today to respond. I think you should try other avenues for your sexual lifts, rather than trying to take something that really wouldnt be suitable for somebody so young and somebody who does not suffer from a lack of testosterone and as Oli points out quite rightly, it may cause damage to you further along - who knows. If your sex life is a little drab, I here there are fantastic places such as the Erotic festival or Anne Summers do wonders to spice things up. Hope that helps and please be very careful or talk to a doctor. judith

hello daisy - I do hope that my last response hasnt upset you too much. I just think you ought to be very careful messing around with hormones that arent going wrong for you at your current age. It would be like somebody of my age, taking something a young person was prescribed and doing damage to myself. Do let us know your ok and have found alternate ways of getting that extra lift. judith

oh isee! I didnt realise, i thought it might be like a female viagra. im just feeling a bit low at the moment. im never 'in the mood' which isnt like me. i was talking to a friend about it recently though and she thinks that it could be my contraceptive pill. Since I had a coil removed ive been on a progestogen only pill, and my sex drive has disappeared. id love to take something else to replace it. or ill have to come off the pill and then use condoms which i hate. its quite a tricky situation.

I am not in my 20s but am perry menopausal so had my testosterone levels checked and that is what brought me to Intrinsa becuase my sex drive was non existant. I think you just have to check your levels and go for it... if you don;t need it, it is silly to take somthing you don't need! Issy x

Hi Daisy, taking the contraceptive pill can sometimes reduce your sex drive. When I used to take it, it was a common problem with women and the Docs would try another type until they found one that was more suitable for you. Have a word with your GP and tell them what's happening. They will have heard of the problem before so it wont be news. I'll see what I can find out about progesterone only pills. Take care

Hi Daisy, I have copied this for you from the internet: "All hormonal methods have a possible effect of causing changes in sexual desire, most commonly loss of interest in sex and decreased ability to orgasm, but also possibly an increased sex drive. Depression is also a possible side effect. All women will react differently to hormonal contraceptives, and if a particular hormone or hormone mixture is causing such unwanted side-effects, it is possible that a different type of contraceptive might not have those side effects. Consult your doctor to discuss your contraceptives." Hope this helps.

hello Daisy, I really feel for you. In my younger days when I took the pill, I went through several different types of pills and they totally ruined my sex drive, my weight fluctuated and generally I felt awful most of the time. I really hope that you find a more suitable pill - I know in places in Europe they blood test patients to get what their hormone levels are, and then they prescribe the exact pill that is right for their hormone levels. Dont feel upset, its just a case of finding out one thats suitable for you. Would you not have the coil again? judith
