I found this today: Myth: Combining carbs and protein will hinder weight loss. Reality: The theory goes that since protein and carbohydrates require different enzymes for digestion, if you eat them together, they won’t be digested properly and toxins will form that cause you to gain body fat. The truth is your digestive tract can handle a variety of food groups at the same time. There’s no proof that eating protein and carbohydrates separately aids weight loss. In fact, you’re better off combining protein and carbohydrates at meals – doing so will keep you feeling energized and satisfied longer. What’s more, some of the healthiest foods – nuts, beans, yogurt – are a combination of protein and carbohydrate And this one about coffee!! I'd read the other day that it DOES increase your metabolism! Everyone says something different! Myth: Drinking coffee helps you lose weight. Reality: Coffee may temporarily rein in your appetite but drinking a couple of cups a day won't have enough of an effect to accelerate weight loss. (And contrary to popular belief, coffee also won’t boost your metabolism.) Depending on what kind of coffee you drink – or what you put in it – you might actually be adding extra calories to your day. A Starbucks Grande Café Mocha has 260 calories. A cup of black coffee, however, has only 2 calories. If you’re trying to lose weight, enjoy your coffee black or with a little milk. If you use sugar, stick to one teaspoon (only 16 calories).

Id never thought about nuts and yoghurt and stuff haveing both protein and carbs in them, so that totally busts that myth then! i try not to drink cofffee because i want to try and get rid of the cellulite on my thighs that is getting worse by the DAY! One myth that drives me crazy is the dont snack myth - that you should only have 3 meals a day and NO GRAZING. You can eat a million little meals through the day if you want - as long as the calories dont add up to more than the three meals!!! Obviously its the all round calorie consumption that day that is going to make the difference!!! I cant go a whole 4 hours without eating. I get hungry so quickly. I thikn I must just burn energy really fast. So it was good to know i was breaking a cardinal sin by eating once every 2 hours. Granted, this still doesnt seem to be working out for me, as im still overweight. but its a way of life that i cant see changing. And I'm glad that its a myth.

But the Harcombe diet is based on not combining carbs and protein - and it seems to really work?
