I recently started to paint my flat and cannot stop coughing, I was worried I was coming down with something but really I think it is the paint effecting my lungs. Does anyone know if this is right? I am a bit worried.

I would wear a mask if I were you Brian.
The chemicals in the oil based paint is really bad for you. In fact next year I believe they are discontinuing the oil based paint for wood and replacing it with a water based paint.
Wear a mask at all times.
