IF avian bird flu is like an influenza then will it be spread like the bubonic plague!?

Bit of a nightmare situation.

If it were to break out i think the threat would be greater than terrorism to the security of the planet.

I read somewhere that the worst case scenario for the UK, i.e. one in which the expected Type A virus enters the country; and the predicated amount of people catch the virus and spread it - there will be an estimated 50,000 UK deaths.

This is a huge amount of deaths.

Ought we be worried or has anyone heard that the virus will probably not mutate.?

oh yes, this is  big cause for worry as it has assumed pandemic proportions. there is a big deficit of drugs too like tamiflu which is running out stocks.
oh by the way, there seems to be a new drug to counter influenza strain among humans called amantadine.. is this better than tamiflu. how effective is this vis-a-vis tamiflu ?

hi all,
This is an interesting topical discussion ..I did a lot of reading up on this and found that both tamiflu and amantadine are medications for 2 different types of flu strains. But when the two are used together it may work well together as they complement each other and give effective results too.

no links please

Hey! I posted a very similar question on that medication at the following link -

http://www.ukmedixplus.co.uk/forum/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/32/Topic/1490/mt/Relenza%20(Zanamivar)/tt/is%20relenza%20like%20amantidine?

So ought you take tamiflu and amantadine together? It seems that one is better than the other for certain flu strains......seems a bit of lottery though.....thanks for the posting - veru informative!!
