So I read a report that said the threat is over in the UK and that the National Pandemic Flu service is closing down. Apparently last summer they were seeing 100,000 cases a week and last month there were less than 5000 cases a week. Its reduced alot because we've been able to buy vaccines. At home, in Canada its a big worry, so I bought some tamiflu when I came here. I haven't had to use it yet, but its given me peace of mind knowing I had it. It's great that we've got more control now - knowing the symptoms and being able to deal with them and buying online etc. If we didn't have the internet it could have been a complete disaster, like the plague!

I had a friend who came over here on holiday and got swine flu the day after they arrived and spent days in hell. They said it was like being ain a black hole. Another friend took tamiflu at the first signs and felt better right away Pandemics can occur in waves though, so I dont think we can rule out that it'll happen again. Hold on to your tamiflu. And if you're travelling to the States, Mexico, India or Brazil you still need to watch out for symptoms.

hey there is it true that once you have taken tamiflu that you cant take it again? can you get swine flu twice? i went to my gp today and there were still loads of swine flu posters and stuff everywhere, plus they have now got this new hand gel sanitiser outside the surgery so you wash your hands before you come in, i think thats a great idea and probably the way forward as most germs are caught from things like door handles aint they? In Canada that hand sanitiser stuff is EVERYWHERE. In every shop you go to, on every office floor. My family say its still a big deal there and that there are posters on the subway warning people that the flu season lasts until April, so everyone should keep vigilant about symptoms. I heard that once you've had swine flu, it's really unlikely that you'll get it again as your body should be immune to it. But they were worried about the virus mutating, in which case you would be able to get it twice.

hey there dont all flu's mutate anyway? i thought thats what virus's did, hence why there is no cure for the common cold or flu?? I could be wrong. I take lots of vitamins and also during winter months, i take echinacea - its a herbal rememdy for boosting the immune system. Its best taken in tincture formula rather than pills as the body absorbs it straight away. I always carry a hand sanitiser around in my bag, along with tissues and stuff. The worst thing is when you get on public transport - i normally pull my scarf up over my nose and mouth, so i dont breath in anybodys germs CINDY74

hello Cindy74 - yes I do believe that the common cold and flu virus does mutate from what i have read online and in books etc. It is very worrying that the swine flu has killed so many people in the uk and yet we seem to be not very wary of it these days. I worry as Im a little older and perhaps dont have as strong an immune system as previous years. Does anybody know much information about tamiflu and how it works? judith

I was just going to ask this question again...because I'm not hearing about many horror stories any more. Lins - did you recover ok, was it a false alarm? The family I'm living with and working for, were all stocked up on tamiflu - including me! But it looks like it may have passed us by. Is the flu season over now?
