The Mail on Sunday is writing an article for this Sundays Paper. They want to know why you have chosen to buy Tamiflu? Whether you are genuinely concerned about an epidemic and if you feel the government is doing enough to steer you through a possible outbreak? Feel free to post here (include real names for quotes) Closed Now - thanks Eleanor (from the Mail) will be asking questions here, please support her so she can get real perspectives of how you are feeling into the public domain. Thank you Ukmedix

Hi Bets, No offense but thats a bit of a passe question dont you think? (There are other posts on this subject) Anyway, I am a firm patient of UK Medix as are alot of my friends (mainly weight loss) and they have been for years and although i dont mean to sing their praises too much we have all had great support from the doctors and the pharmacists who are all based in England! Now do whatever you like to get your Tamiflu but why bother putting us lot off? We are lucky to have them and to be able to discuss it with each other on this forum!

I have had a lot of encouragement from these forums when losing weight using reductil, you ought to read the forums on the subject they are really useful. I lost two stone which i am still hoping to keep off which i am sure i will do as long as the kids keep the sweet stuff under lock and key my reductil was the genuine thing since i would really be upset if it was not the real medication and because of that I also bought 10 tablets of tamiflu. Maybe there is a lot of paranoia out there about a possible epidemic but i read the papers each day - including the mail on sunday - and know that this medcation is best at the moment if the UK does suddently have an outbreak of this virus. My husband was actually the one that completely agreed with me when i mentioned it over tea i also read that if the virus did become possible to be passed between humans that it could even kill alot of people.THat was enough to scare me into buying it. I am not one to fall for fake products like 'magic pills' but when you read the media and it mentions tamiflu then surely it is going to be accurate Take care all, Margaret

Actually, I bought it a good long time ago now. I just felt it was important in the light of people writing comments under a heading for an apparently genuine newspaper article. I was reluctant to post that in case it isn't legal to buy it from ukmedix, which I am still not clear on. I'm sorry for my lack of knowledge, I haven't used the medix forums before. I responded to the email this morning regarding the newspaper article, having used the site once and once only before.

My understanding is that tamiflu has been shown to be effective against some strains of bird flu and the hope is that if the bird flu virus mutates into a human-human transmissible disease, it will be effective treating that as well. I bought some a couple of weeks ago when I heard that the government was doing the same and that they'd created a list of special people who would get preferential access to medication in the event of a flu pandemic. I doubt I would be on that list. I have some ethical niggles about doing this, it is an entirely selfish thing and in fact an outbreak in Europe is being made more likely because we are rich enough to buy up stocks of drugs like Tamiflu. Countries like Vietnam and Thailand cannot afford to do this and yet they are in the region where a pandameic is most likely to develop. And yet here we are possibly destroying ourselves with our own selfishness. In this climate I think we're all susceptible to fear tactics and profiteering from merchants and drug manufacturers, I know I am. But then I figure it is a gamble - even if there is an outbreak of this yet-to-be evolved virus, there is no saying that it would not be resistant to tamiflu. That said, I hope I have wasted my money (ie there will be no need for the medication) but I think if it's good enough for the politicians to stockpile for themselves then I will get some for myself. If there is a pandemic in the UK, I fear for people who will have to rely on the NHS for flu treatment, they would probably be the most at risk and also the last to receive treatment. As for other medications aside from Tamiflu I have known about Relenza for some time however I've never heard of it being available. If ukmedix made that available I reckon I would buy some of that as well, as I have heard it's very effective against regular flu. I hope it is legal for me to buy from UK Medix as they conduct an online consultation and a doctor supplies me with a prescription. But there is an argument against making antivirals widely available. Viruses mutate readily and can quickly become resistant to medication. This has already happend with some antiviral that was fed to birds with bird flu - the virus developed immunity and so this particular drug is now ineffective treating humans with the disease.

I did buy 100 capsules - ( £425 ) worth of Tamiflu from this website for numerous reasons. I am generally concerned about the outbreak as many people are and l feel l should have protection for myself and my family and that the government shouldn't just be the greedy ones like a dictatorship deciding who gets this life saving drug. I also do not trust the Chinese authorities to give us the full picture of this outbreak and would not be surprised if it was far worse, due to this l feel that is definitely necessary to have a supply of tamiflu for a 'just in case' scenario. I do not believe the government is doing enough to steer us through a possible epidemic as if the government was truly worried and caring for its people it would have not given government officials and media such as the BBC the privilege of having tamiflu before the public. They should have to wait in line like the rest of us.

Dear ukmedix users, This is a quick note to thank you for posting in response to the questions. I have been very grateful for your comments. Hopefully I have managed to reflect them in the article and hopefully it will be in the newspaper tomorrow. Thank you also to those who emailed me directly. If I haven't replied to you yet it is only because the level of response was so good! Regarding the question of legality of buying prescription drugs online, here is a statement from the Department of Health: "The current law permits prescription medicines to be sold over the internet providing there is a GP signing off each individual prescription on the basis of an assessment of the individual's medical history." On a personal level I think there are very compelling reasons for securing a private supply of Tamiflu. Best wishes, Eleanor Mayne
