I am worried that I need to stop smoking. I have smoked on and off for years and have now started smoking everyday where as before I smoked at weekend with a drink. I smoke to pass the time and take a break from work now and get some fresh air. Am i doomed? H

Not doomed! I always say... if I can quit smoking then so can anyone... I was the epitomy of chain smoker. I was dieting severly and my smoking got way too out of hand so had to do something about it and quit with Champix. there is a certain independance that I feel now that I have quit and can function without it. Toughest test was going out with my friends and not wanting one when I drank and I did. Try and get out of the habit yourself. Take a break from work and instead of a ciggy, take a lil walk. If you cannot manage, then think of Champix, I would always recommend it if you are serious about quitting. Keep us posted. Fa x

Thanks for your response Farah, I appreciate you taking the time. I am going to give it some thought and try and quit. I can;t keep going round in circles! If break it by smoking this weekend I am going to need to try Champix... Did you find it tough? H

hey peeps I smoked for about 4 years and gave up after a fifth attempt, it was wierd..I just woke up oneday and thought im not going to smoke today and it just went on from there. 10 years later and ive not looked back! I think you have to be really ready to want to stop, dont force yourself just wait until its the right time for you! Good luck! Fi

Cindy : good for you, not only will your children think you are stong, they will also not want to smoke to and you will help break the cycle of smokers in your family maybe. Fiona : not everyone can wake up one day and say hey - that's it. Well done for doing that. I do think that it is 'never' the right time for some people. They need the push and Champix is actually amazing, by day 3 I had no cravings.... Anyway keep it up, I did and feel great. Houghton

hey there Houghton - thanks for your kind words, although im not sure me giving up smoking will stop my kids trying it! my mum smoked when i was a kid and she gave up, i still started! i guess everyone just tries smoking, and for some of us its that little bit harder to stop - we need the extra bit of help. Fi - total big up to you for quitting! I wish i could give up like that, but i know what you mean, i got friends who have done it like you just woken up one day and thought to themselves i aint gonna smoke today, and then they go each day like that. well done! i hope i keep it up too!
