So i was trying to quit cold turkey but couldn't, then I bought the nicorette patch thingies and the gum and all that, didn't stop me. It supressed me just a little but the desire was still there. I decided to start Champix because the resluts were so impressive to read. I also read the desire goes with Champix which is what I want. My order is in the post... WISH ME LUCK!

Good luck Houghton! I think that Champix is in a league of it's own for really helping you quit smoking. Nicorette helped with the cravings but I always bounced back into smoking, with champix i have no desire whatsoever to go back to how I was! How are you doing?

I went just went on a Ryanair flight, and they were selling pretend cigarettes, sticks that you suck on that have a bit of nicotine, but you don't light them. Never heard of them in my life! They must be popular though, if theyre selling them on flights!

Hey digger. Those "pretend" cigarettes you're talking about that they are selling on flights. I recently decided to quit and found this really great gadget in one of those little magazines that come inside the newspapers selling household things which you never really seem to see in the shops (do you know the kind I am talking about?). Anyway, the one I got was called an e-cigarette (or electronic cigarette). What an absolutely brilliant gadget!. It contains absolutely no tar or nicotine (unlike most on the market), you can get different tasting filters for them and the most amazing thing is that they produce "real" smoke when you draw on them!. Ok, it's not really smoke, just vapour, but it gives you the sense that you are really smoking. When you are trying to give up the "real" fags, this gadget is an absolute must, in my opinion, as it helps you with the habit. You can call me mad if you like, but in my own experience, the major part of any addiction is habit. The urge to smoke is not just the craving for nicotine, it is the habit, you know, the "having something in your hand" thing. Nicorette inhalers and the like cannot substitute the feeling of getting a good lungful of smoke, so are no good for the habit. Also, whats the point of replacing one addiction for cigarettes with another for nicotine replacement therepy???? Can't grasp that one. Surely, the hardest part of giving up anything is getting away from the very thing which makes you addicted in the first place. Smokers are addicted to nicotine. Why on earth then end up getting addicted to nicotine gum, patches or inhalers? Just my own personal feelings, please don't be offended. If it works for you, then fine and good luck to you. It's just not for me. If I'm to give up, then it has to be all or nothing. No half measures.

I've never tried the patches or gum. But I always thought it sounded odd to feed yourself nicotine in any other way - I couldnt see the point either. The e cigarette sounds interesting - Im amazed it makes vapour. It must look ridiculous though! But if it breaks the habit, then whatever works. I defintely found my hands were very fidgety for the first few weeks. Tapping away on here helped!
