I only smoke a few cigarettes every once in a while. Like maybe 5 every
couple of months. 3 in one night if I'm drinking with friends, and
maybe 1 or 2 at other times.

I dont really think of myself as a smoker, On medical records I would
always write 'non smoker'.

Does it really make that much of a difference to my lungs? Im young
and healthy otherwise. I dont feel I smoke enough to be concerned,
because I do everything in moderation.I was told that less than 100
cigarettes a year and the body barely even registers it. Is that true?

I want to agree with you here Canada... but think of this.  A guy could smoke 0 cigarettes in his life and get lung cancer.

So hopefully that puts things in perspective.

Not worth it I think.

if u smoke, ur a smoker. simple as that!

if ur not addicted, then why r u doing it? just stop!

Just saw this post - nothing really to do with me as I dont smoke.
But I tell you - Canada - if you're a girl: from my experience, its
disgusting kissing a girl with an ashtray mouth.

And waiting in the bar, while she nips out for a cigarette is really boring.

If a girl wants to light up in bed, I show her the door.

She can go smoke on the street - and not come back!

That is some talk you got there pod!

A lot of people I know are social smokers.  I considered myself one, then when I would get stressed i would go outside for a ciggy to take my mind off of things.  I did a 12 week course of Champix and feel much better.  I quit and don't crave anymore.  If you think you can stop without taking champix becuase you aren't addicted, then do.  Otherwise one day you may become addicted.

Everyone starts as a social smoker!
I started at 14 at school - the occasional cigarette after school etc. Then it
was a few at the pub. Then it was pretty much addiction central - after 30
mins I'd start thinking about my next one.

But I've got an addictive personality. Maybe you dont Canada. either way,
if you can stop, do. Then you dont have to bother with any treatments in
the future, like the one I'm on.
When I finish this Champix course and I'm officially a NON SMOKER - I'm
gonna feel like Ive been freed from prison! The release.

If you can quit on your own now, do it. It will only get harder.

hey there

there aint no such thing as a social smoker, you either smoke or you dont! simple
those people who say they smoke socially, whats social about it? ive smoked since i was a kid and let me tell you, its horrid, its the worse thing to try and quit. ive tried many time without success, i have seen close friends and family die from smoking related diseases and that still hasnt given me the insentive to quit.

its the most addictive drug in the world(well to me anyways). so for those who want to quit, give me a shout cos i need all the help i can get!

You're totally right. I was out last night with some friends and when
people went outside for a cigarette I just didn't go. And so this morning I
woke up and felt proud of myself. I really hadn't needed to at all. And I
then didn't have that gross taste in my mouth that I always have the next
day after I've smoked. That always makes me regret it.

hey there

well done ocanada, you go! I always try and think about how much everything stinks when i smoke. my hair, my clothes, my skin. keep up the good work and we will all be smoke free in no time!
Im on day 3 so far taking champix and so far so good, although i keep getting weird kind of palpitations-not sure if thats just nerves or something to do with pills.
