I have been talking to our neighbour who is in her early forties and pregnant with her third child, about champix. She's amazed that I've managed to give up fags, and wants to try it out. I told her to look at this site for more information, but she's so busy with the children, I offered to ask for her. Is it healthy to take champix when you are pregnant? Has anyone on this forum done that? Thanks, Digger

Hi mate..I don't think you're supposed to take champix when pregnant unless the benefits outweigh the risk. Obviously it's stupid to be smoking when you're pregnant though, but if she's got a couple of healthy kids already she's done alright. She should talk to her doctor about it.

alright! id get her to check with her doctor or speak to one of the docs on here. your not allowed take any pills from what i remember when preganant...and even having to avoid certain foods etc! best she checks in with the doc first. my mum smoked when pregnant with all her kids(she had 5 of us) and we all turned out healthy! not that im saying its good smoking when pregnant, but we shouldnt judge! linsx

my sister was a heavy smoker, as soon as she got pregnant she went right off fags. In fact - she said that's how she knew she was pregnant (or that something was up...) coz she felt sick when she tried to light up. Funny how nature works that way sometimes. Obviously not for everyone though.

Hi Digger - I just checked my packet and realised that unlike most drugs, which contain an instruction leaflet with warnings about side effects, pregnancy etc, Champix doesn't - strange. Definitely a question for the doctor. Good on her for wanting to quit though, and you for helping. Cheers Kaz

hey there I must admit, as bad as it is - i smoked all through both my pregnancies. It didnt put me off at all, i didnt smoke as much but still did non the less. I felt awful for it, but I just couldnt quit. My kids are so chuffed that now im not smoking, and i feel bad that i didnt do it when pregnant. Check with the docs if you can take whilst pregnant, but i wouldnt risk it without checking. CINDY74

I think she's inspired by me giving up - we used to be quite the smoking pal neighbours! But as her other kids are healthy and she smoked when pregnant with them, I think she thinks she could get away with it again. She'll probably scoff at me if I tell her to talk to her doctor but I'll give it a try. She wants the easy way out - take a pill and its all gone - dont we all though!

Digger, I don;t have my champix box on me, but read the leaflet on the inside and see if it says consult your doctor if pregnant before taking it. Better to be on the safe side.

Love that description Lins - yes Digger, you are our Elvis. Hope you're feeling like a star today. Re the smoking pal thing, it's really hard to give up the pleasure of having a cigarette with a friend. It's not really the smoke, it's the companionship. I used to have a smoking buddy at work but then I changed jobs and found I was the only smoker in the team. I think that's helped a lot with quitting, but I still miss going outside for a break with a mate. Kaz
