Contraindications
before you take Propecia
Propecia is a medication that is specifically indicated for use by men
with male pattern hair loss. It is contraindicated in the following:
Pregnancy. Propecia or Finasteride is contraindicated in women when they
are, or may be potentially pregnant. The treatment may cause abnormalities
of the sex organs of the male foetus of a pregnant woman who receives Propecia.
If pregnancy occurs in the woman and she has been exposed to the active
ingredient of Propecia, (Finasteride) she should be apprised of the potential
hazard to the male foetus. The Propecia tablet is coated to prevent contact
with the active ingredient during normal handling, and there should be no
risk attached. There is no risk from the semen of a man when he is taking
Propecia.
Special care should be exercised when taking Propecia. Women should not
handle broken or crushed Propecia tablets when they are, or may be potentially
pregnant because of the possibility of absorption of Finasteride, with subsequent
risk to the male foetus. Propecia tablets are coated and will prevent contact
with the active ingredient during normal handling, unless crushed or broken.
