Taking
Propecia
Propecia is the first and only pill approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment
of male pattern hair loss on the top of the head. The medication is available,
on-line, at www.ukmedix.com and
is a treatment that is intended for men only, being unsuitable for use by
women. The medication is in 1mg tablet form and manufactured by Merck &
Co Inc.
Propecia works by lowering the levels of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone
or DHT in the scalp, and works by blocking 5 alpha reductase, an important
enzyme which regulates the hair follicle. It is DHT that causes the hair
follicle to reduce in size, until it is no longer able to produce any hair.
In order to prevent male pattern hair loss, and to promote new growth,
Propecia must be taken as a regular medication. The medication should be
taken on a daily basis and should be for a minimum period of three months,
after which signs of new hair growth should be noticed. In almost 50% of
cases, by taking regular controlled doses, Propecia increases the number
of scalp hairs, helping to fill thinning hair, or areas affected by baldness.
If you are suffering from male pattern hair loss, the sooner you start taking
Propecia the more hair you will have later.
In regulated studies it was found that men who took Propecia maintained,
or increased the number of visible hairs to their scalp during the first
year. The improvement continued in the second year of taking Propecia on
a regular basis. Whilst it is important, that in order to work effectively,
Propecia must be taken on a daily basis, should you forget to take your
Propecia tablet one day, you should just carry on as normal the following
day, do not take double the dose. Because Propecia controls the enzyme which
is the cause of male pattern hair loss, if you stop taking Propecia, you
will not keep the hair which has re-grown. Stopping the medication will
cause the hair which has grown to be lost within 12 months of stopping treatment.
